My finger nails are getting deshaped and detached from the nail beds, there is a powder formation underneath the nails, there is also a white scales formation on one of my thighs. This has been diagnosed as a type of psoriasis. Is there a treatment which is certain and free of side effects?

No, at this time there is no cure, or treatment that is free of side effects.
If you are looking for something like an aveno oatmeal bath for some help with the dryness, that may help, but there isn’t anything that is curative at this point.

Honey I hate to break it to you but there is no cure for psoriasis yet. My father in law has had it bad for years and has it all over his body and lost finger nails. The doctor can prescribe you medicines to help relieve the discomfort but there is no way to get rid of it for good.

Ah, friend, welcome to my world. No, there is no cure for our condition. The best treatment I have found is ultra-violet light, multi-vitamins, and Omega 3/6 fish oil tablets @1500mg per day. This keeps it under control, but is not a cure.

Also note that what I have described may not work for you. Because this is such an ‘individual’ kind of disease, it has been impossible thus far to find a consistent treatment. What works for one person doesn’t always work for anyone else. I am very wary of the advertised cures due to the side effects mentioned, particularly the chances of kidney disease and death.

Tried that, danlljn, and it didn’t work for me — or anyone else I know. Also, could you maybe have written a longer run-on sentence?

its true that it never goes away, the bacteria will always be in the body, but you can treat some of it on the skin by always putting on special lotion that has vitamin E and D. try eating less sugars and carbs and eat more yogurt.

my friend, it sounds like you have Plaque Psoriasis and like the others have said there is no cure and no drug free of side effects. I’ve had it for 5 years. It covers my entire scalp, causing severe hair loss and it’s spreading to my chest, stomach and back.

The most safest way is with vitamins. Dermatologists will prescribe topical creams like foams and some alcohol based solutions. There are some over the counter things available at WalMart like Psoriasin Gel. It helps cut back on scaling and dryness w/o stinging (I use it).

Another route you can go is with UV light (tanning) but you also have to think of the long term effects of that treatment which is Melanoma (skin cancer).

Another route, is the new drug Enbrel. It’s a self injectable medication that the dermatologist like to prescribe because it helps control the disease the best. It’s fairly expensive though depending on your insurance benefits. I tried to get it, but with my Health insurance, it was going to cost me $330 a month. Because the drug is so new, the FDA is not sure of what effects it has after long term usage.

They do have an oral pill you can take, Methotrexate, but they don’t like to prescribe it. It can cause a lot of damage to your liver and kidneys after time, and it doesn’t seem worth it.

Go to your dermatologist and talk to them about treatment options. You can also go to http://www.psoriasisconnect.com and find out more information. I get a free mailing every month that keeps me informed of new findings and you can hear about people who have lived with this disease for years and what they’ve found works best.

You also need to know that psoriasis is not a bacteria or a virus or anything of the sort. It’s a immune system disfunction. Your immune system is basically "on overload" and it’s attacking your skin cells causing inflammation.

The first step to treating it is to understand the disease. Do some research. I’d be more than happy to talk to you about it if you want. inner_moon_84@yahoo.com

There IS a safe treatment, not to be mistaken as a ‘cure’. There is no such thing as a ‘cure’. The treatment we know of gets to the root cause and it works! It is not as difficult as you might think. We have found a scientifically validated solution, well worth taking a look at.

Psoriasis is an immune related disease.
